About this scholarship

High school seniors who live in BBB Cincinnati's 22-county service area covering southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana may apply for the Thomas J. Klinedinst Jr. Memorial Students of Integrity Scholarship by February 18.

Six winners each receive $5,000 toward any accredited post-secondary program, including community colleges and vocational schools. Applicants submit an ethics essay; grades and extracurriculars are not scored.

An independent panel of business, nonprofit, and community leaders judges entries.

  • One original essay required (single essay, submitted in the application's textbox)
  • Word count must be between 500 and 1000 words (min 500, max 1000)
  • Essay must be formatted with a title, introduction, body, and conclusion
  • Approach as a personal reflection, not a research paper
  • Must be your own original, previously unpublished work; no assistance/mentoring from teachers, parents, or others
  • AI tools/programs may NOT be used in any manner (spell-check and word-count programs are allowed)
  • Citations not required but must be included if outside sources are referenced; citations do not count toward word count; statistics must be cited
  • Eligibility: high school seniors 13+ living in BBB Cincinnati's 22-county service area (Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, Southeast Indiana), planning post-secondary education at an accredited univers
  • Deadline: 11:59 p.m. February 18, 2026; submitted electronically via SmarterSelect
  • Six awards of $5,000 each ($30,000 total)
  • Essay must be a 500–1,000 word personal reflection, not a research paper, with title, introduction, body, and conclusion.
  • Essay must be the applicant's original, previously unpublished work; assistance from teachers, parents, or others is prohibited.
