About this scholarship
Incoming University of Maryland freshmen who apply by the November 1 early action deadline and are invited to the Honors College are automatically considered for the Banneker/Key Scholarship. No separate application is required.
The award can cover up to full tuition, mandatory fees, housing, food, and a book allowance for up to eight consecutive semesters. Recipients must register for at least 12 credits per semester, maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA, and complete 30 credits per academic year. Semifinalists are invited to interview in late February or March.
The scholarship is named for Benjamin Banneker and Francis Scott Key, both of whom lived in Maryland. It goes to a select group of applicants who have shown strong academic leadership and accomplishment in high school.
