About this scholarship
Students from California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, or Hawaii who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or vocational programs may apply through the Seattle Foundation. Preference goes to applicants of Japanese or other Asian ancestry, including multi-ethnic Asians.
Up to ten renewable awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year. Select the appropriate application track for your degree type and submit the online application with required documents by March 15.

- Online application using the appropriate degree-type track
- 500-word maximum essay on the most interesting book the applicant has read
- 250-word maximum essay on Asian heritage and its influence on the applicant's life
- Two references from academic, employment, or community-leadership contacts who are not relatives
- Transcripts for all applicable education levels and schools attended
- SAT and/or ACT scores for graduating high school students, or a graduate-level exam score for graduate students
- Test Scores: Graduating high school students must provide SAT and/or ACT scores; graduate students must provide a graduate-level exam test score (e.g., LSAT, GRE, MCAT)
- Two letters of reference from people who know you through academic/employment experience or community leadership (no relatives)
- Transcript(s) for every applicable level of education/all schools attended from high school through present; unofficial acceptable for application, official required by July 15 if selected
- Must be a resident of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, or Washington
- Must be of Japanese or other Asian ancestry (including multi-ethnic Asians)
- Must demonstrate financial need
- GPA of 3.0 or greater
- Official transcripts are required by July 15 for selected recipients.
