About this scholarship
Middle school, high school, and undergraduate students may enter the Association for Women in Mathematics Student Essay Contest by interviewing a woman or underrepresented-gender mathematician or statistician and writing a 500 to 1,000 word biographical essay.
Submissions are accepted November 1 through February 1 via MathPrograms.org. Monetary award amounts and recipient counts vary by year.

- Biographical essay of approximately 500 to 1,000 words based primarily on the applicant's interview
- Short biographical sketch of the student contestant
- Essay must be based primarily on an interview the student personally conducts with a woman or individual from an underrepresented gender identity working in or retired from a mathematical sciences car
- Three competition divisions: Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and Undergraduate
- Essay must be presented in essay form, not as an interview transcript
- Biographical sketch must include the student's name, grade level, school, and mathematical interests
- Interview a woman or an individual from an underrepresented gender identity in the mathematics community who is currently working in or retired from a mathematical career.
- Submit the essay in essay form rather than as an interview transcript.
- Contest divisions are Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and Undergraduate.
