About this scholarship
High school seniors whose parents are active EMS, fire, or police first responders, or first responders themselves, may apply for America's 911 Foundation scholarships honoring those who served on September 11.
The foundation awards 20 scholarships of $2,000 each.
Submit the online application with an essay answering what inspired your parents to become a first responder and how that could inspire you. Applications generally open near the end of November, with recipients notified by mid-June.

- Two non-relative reference letters from current school faculty and/or a community leader
- Essay must be 250-500 words (stated range; 500 = maximum)
- Essay must be uploaded in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format only
- Essay must use Times New Roman or Arial font, 12pt, with 1.5 line spacing
- Applicant must be a child of an Active Duty First Responder (EMS, Fire, or Police), paid or volunteer (or a First Responder continuing their education)
- Must list parent's name, department, job title, and supervisor's name
- Admission to an accredited College, University, or Technical School
- Two letters of reference from current school faculty and/or a community leader, non-related
- Financial need may be a component
- Application is 100% online and requires creating an account; essay uploaded after login
- Judged on grammar, spelling, punctuation, content, and appearance
- For applicants qualifying through a parent, provide the parent's name, department, job title, and supervisor's name.
