About this scholarship

Full-time graduate students who are U.S., Canadian, Mexican, Bahamian, or West Indies citizens or permanent residents and have completed at least one semester in an MS or PhD program in enology, viticulture, or wine-related business or health fields may apply for American Wine Society Educational Foundation scholarships.

Eight scholarships valued at $3,500 each are awarded annually for the following fall term.

Applications open January 1 and are due March 31. Submit the completed application, three recommendation letters (at least one from an academic advisor), and current official transcripts. First-year graduate students should also include undergraduate transcripts.

AWSEF supports graduate research and careers in enology, viticulture, and related wine industry fields.

  • Submission options: enter text directly in the application field, upload a PDF at submission, or upload a PDF to a shared Google Folder before the March 31 deadline
  • This is a graduate-level scholarship for grape/wine research (relevant given grad-only hard filtering in matching)
  • Submit one combined essay/statement of no more than 750 words, clearly separating the research-importance and professional-goals parts.
