About this scholarship

Surgeons from countries outside the United States and Canada who are at least 35 and under 50 at application, have completed surgical training, and have practiced, taught, or conducted research for at least one year at their permanent location may apply. Applicants must show a strong commitment to teaching and/or research; ACS membership is not required. Preference goes to early-career surgeons and to those without prior U.S. or Canada training or fellowships.

Each scholarship is $10,000 and supports visits to clinical, teaching, and research centers in North America plus full participation in the ACS Clinical Congress.

Submit the official ACS online application in English with a CV, a publications list, three complete publications, and three recommendation letters (including one from a department chair or ACS Fellow in your country). Unsuccessful applicants may reapply up to two more times with new materials.

The endowment began with a legacy gift from Paul R. Hawley, MD, and has grown through later gifts that expanded the number of awards.
