About this scholarship
High school juniors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents in one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C., and who demonstrate creativity, courage, and passion for journalism or multimedia storytelling may apply for the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference. One student is selected from each state and D.C.
Fifty-one selected students attend an all-expenses-paid five-day conference in Washington, D.C., and each receives a $1,000 college scholarship.
Submit the online application with an unofficial transcript, one or two recommendation letters, up to three journalism or multimedia work samples, a color headshot, and two essays of up to 500 words each on your interest in journalism and free spirit qualities.
The Freedom Forum program develops student leaders in journalism, multimedia storytelling, and free expression.
