About this scholarship

Graduating high school seniors with at least one parent or legal guardian who is an AFT member in good standing for one year or more may apply for the AFT Robert G. Porter Scholars Program. Children or legal dependents of AFT national, state, or local union staff are not eligible. Four scholarships of $8,000 each are paid as $2,000 annual installments over four to six years, with continued enrollment and a minimum 2.75 GPA required for renewal.

Selection weighs academics, community service, leadership, work experience, recommendations, an essay, and commitment to working people and unions. The application window runs December 1 through March 31.
