About this scholarship

New Mexico residents ages 17 to 21 who spent at least one year in foster care and want post-secondary education or marketable skills may apply for the Youth in Foster Care Scholarship through New Mexico Friends of Foster Care and the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Award amounts and recipient counts vary.

Open to high school seniors, GED holders, recent graduates, or undergraduates attending nonprofit or public schools in or outside New Mexico, full or part time. Submit the foundation application during the open period.

Jim and Ann Nelson, longtime CASA volunteers, created the fund to help young adults transition successfully after aging out of foster care.
